In the Classroom

Why does a classical education place such high value on the phenomenon of memory? We believe that there are passages from the Bible, poetry, great literature, and famous speeches that are so essential for mental and spiritual formation that they simply must be memorized before they find deep lodging in a child’s soul.  A visitor to any classroom at Abington Christian Academy will see students memorizing such material through singing, chanting, and rhyming, and will enjoy hearing them recite their completed work.

A visitor will also discover that the Christian faith is fundamental to both what is taught, and how it is taught.  For example, we could not successfully teach science without first explaining to our students that everything in the world is the creation of God, for it is only the knowledge of this creation that gives meaning and purpose to the world we inhabit.
