The experience of first, second, third and fourth graders is not just defined by textbooks and exams, but rather the joy of enlarging their imaginations, learning how to think and communicate, and the satisfaction of developing all manner of study and life skills. Because young people at this age are at a stage of development where memory is fun and easy, we confidently teach them facts, definitions, rules and skills – the things we consider to be the tools of education. These early grades are the golden period for filling the child’s academic “toolbox”.
